Watco’s Texas Coastal Bend Railroad (TCBR) traded in their trash bags for trimmers for this year’s community involvement project.

The TCBR’s Team Safety & Improvement Committee selects community service projects to participate in each year. Typically, they participate in an annual beach cleanup around Corpus Christi, Texas. This year, the team traded the sand and sun for tombstones and tall weeds.

On June 27, they volunteered their time, mowers, trimmers, and other tools to remove the overgrowth at Old Robstown Cemetery. The historic site has been the final resting place for locals for nearly 120 years, including many veterans. When the call went out asking for help, Conductor/Engineers Michael Hanna and Lupe Villarreal, Roadmaster John Luis, Trainmaster Ernest Sanchez, and General Manager Jesse Luna answered. They and about 20 others spent the day clearing head-high weeds, uncovering graves, and restoring the cemetery to a respectful state.

“Thank you to everyone who participated,” Luna said. “Our team volunteered their time and equipment, made a meaningful impact on the appearance of the cemetery, and demonstrated our continued commitment to supporting the community.”
