A Rising Star at Houston Terminal

JANUARY 2026 — Operator, traffic clerk, traffic coordinator, and now a new crew leader, Azavier Vara has had many roles since joining Watco’s Houston Texas Terminals back in 2021.
His experience has been invaluable in managing freight at this transload facility, where commodities like steel coils are regularly unloaded from trucks and stored at the terminal’s on-site warehouse.
Assistant Terminal Manager Salomon Torres said, “I trust Azavier to find even the smallest inaccuracy on inbound and outbound shipping paperwork. He’s very thorough. It’s one of the reasons why our team hasn’t had a delivery error in three months.”
Because of Vara’s attention to detail, work vehicles and terminal equipment are always well maintained. After noticing an uptick in forklifts getting flat tires last year, Vara now goes out of his way to ensure all lanes inside the warehouse stay clear and picks up debris that he finds on the ground.
Torres said, “We’ve had a lot of flats in the past. But there’s been a big improvement over the last few months thanks to Azavier’s efforts.”
When it came time to fill the crew leader role in 2025, it was an easy decision for Torres. He said: “Azavier was the obvious choice. When it comes to integrity, safety, and teamwork, he goes above and beyond.”
