Railroaders Bring Major Improvements to Worksite
JANUARY 2023 —
In just over a year, Laborer Garrett Ferree has gone from rookie to expert transload operator at Watco’s Crafton Transload Terminal.
He joined the team having no experience transloading commodities. But according to Terminal Manager Nick Marshall, Ferree’s positive work ethic and aptitude more than made up for it.
Marshall said, “From the very start, it was apparent that Garrett fit in. He picked up his responsibilities quickly, and to this day, never sacrifices safety.”
At the Pennsylvania terminal, Ferree moves tons of hydrochloric acid and soda ash from railcars to trucks. This job requires him to be meticulous. He’s known for taking all necessary proactive measures, from wearing the necessary personal protective equipment to inspecting railcars before safely moving product to trucks.
Marshall credits Ferree’s attention to detail for his perfect safety record. To date, Ferree has never had a reportable safety incident. And the terminal recently marked its three-year safety anniversary. He said: “I can count on Garrett to look out for himself and his teammates. Every day he makes a big difference in helping the terminal run efficiently, without injury or incident.”
